"Improvisation as a surviving act. Harvesting at the last minute all the sounds, whether they are useful or not. Scanning for poetic images and provoking the meeting, enriching it, embellishing it, with our intimate artist's hodgepodge. Searching in the world's chaos to find one's music, that is what ‘Poetic Scrap Metal’ does.”
~François Corneloup
After having developed a solid experience in the “Compagnie Lubat,” baritone and soprano saxophonist François Corneloup makes good use of the appellation of artist-musician. It implies listening, a certain attention toward the other, and the outcome of this attention: a communication, a generosity, a sense of risk expressed from the simplicity of a popular tune to the most vertiginous constructions as explored in the groups of Henri Texier, Louis Sclavis, Michel Portal or his own trios and quartets.
Tony Hymas had first called François Corneloup for the Sam Rivers-Tony Hymas ensemble "Eight Day Journal." This work was developed in the ensemble Los Incontrolados and more recently, the group Ursus Minor. Corneloup is currently touring in Europe with his trio (Marc Ducret and Martin Frances).
Having jammed at the Black Dog with Adam Linz and JT Bates during Minnesota sur Seine 2004, Corneloup thought of creating a band with them and Dominique Pifarély immediately following the festival. The premiere is tonight.
