François Tusques: piano

Adam Linz: double bass

An absolute fan of Fat Kid Wednesdays and a total admirer of Adam Linz, legendary pianist François Tusques insisted, after hearing Linz perform in Paris, that they play together as a duo before starting to develop with other musicians. After the last Fat Kid tour in France, they performed at the 7 Lézars, a pure moment of rapture in that tiny Paris club. Tonight’s performance brings the two together again for what promises to be a very special evening.

In 1965, Tusques he created the first French Free Jazz ensemble with Bernard Vitet, Michel Portal and all the artists that would become the future of French jazz. A real manifesto! After that he led a quartet with Barney Wilen, Bebe Guérin and Also Romano and became one of the essential players to welcome the wave of expatriate American Free Jazzers. The wave included Don Cherry, with whom he played for six months; Clifford Thornton, with whom he recorded the freshly re-released The Panther and the Lash (Universal); Sunny Murray; Arthur Jones and many others.

In the 1970's, Tusques’ political views drew him toward a more accessible music based on traditional roots, including his own Celtic roots. Immediately after the oil spill of the Amoco Cadiz devastated the region, Tusques recorded with traditional musicians from Brittany. He wrote musical-theater pieces such as "Who killed Albert Ayler?" and founded the Intercommunal Free Dance Orchestra with saxophonist Jo Maka and other African players. He created several film scores, including the one for all the episodes of Generation, about the 1968 "revolution". His influences include Cecil Taylor, Monk, Cage, Webern and Ellington.
